STATE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES BETA TESTING RELEASE OF ONLINE PASSPORT RENEWAL SYSTEM

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) has released a beta version of its online passport renewal system.  Individuals may not be able to start an application on the day of their choice. The system will open for a limited midday eastern time window each day and will close once DOS reaches its daily limit.

If an individual is unable to start an application, DOS advises them to try again on another day. If an individual does not want to wait or does not qualify to renew online, they may also renew by mail now.

During the next several months, DOS plans to continue to limit the number of applications accepted each day so it can monitor the system’s performance in real time. These application daily limits during the beta release applications are an important and standard part of the software development process.   As DOS prepares for a full launch of the updated online passport renewal system, they ask for patience during the testing process.
