“GOLD CARD” FACES OPPOSITION DESPITE THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S CLAIMS

Recent comments from President Donald Trump and his allies have raised eyebrows over the proposed “Gold Card” visa program, a program that, as of now, appears not to formally exist.
Claims of Billion-Dollar Sales
Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnik, recently claimed that he had already “sold a thousand” of these so-called Gold Cards, suggesting the Trump Administration profited $1 billion in revenue from the program. President Trump himself has echoed this, stating publicly that the program has generated “billions” in sales.
However, no official visa program under the name “Gold Card” currently exists in federal immigration policy or in State Department or Department of Homeland Security documentation. These statements have left immigration experts and lawmakers questioning what, if anything, is actually being implemented.
Legislative Push Meets Resistance
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) recently introduced legislation that would have codified a Gold Card-style visa program, aimed at high-net-worth individuals or entrepreneurs. However, the effort faced immediate opposition from within the Republican Party, particularly from lawmakers who oppose expanding visa programs of any kind. As a result, the implementation of the legislation has stalled.
What Is the Gold Card?
The Trump Gold Card is a type of residency permit for the Unites States, that allows investors a path to residency and citizenship if they commit at least $5 million USD to projects in the US. Despite public references, the details of the proposed “Gold Card” remain vague and there is no known framework, application process, or legal authorization for such a visa in the U.S. at this time.
Bottom Line
While former officials tout massive financial success from a nonexistent visa program, no formal “Gold Card” visa exists under U.S. immigration law. Any revenue claims appear unsupported by public records or policy, and proposed legislation to create such a program has so far been rejected by conservative lawmakers.
