The U.S. Department of State has released the April 2026 Visa Bulletin, and several key immigrant visa categories have advanced—creating new opportunities for both family‑based and employment‑based applicants.
Significant Updates
Family‑Based (F2A): Spouses and unmarried children of permanent residents continue to benefit from Current Dates for Filing and favorable Final Action Dates. Many applicants can move forward immediately.
Employment‑Based (EB‑1 & EB‑3): EB‑1 for India and China advances to April 1, 2023, while all other countries remain Current. EB‑3 shows strong advancement worldwide, with priority dates moving to June 1, 2024 for most countries.
EB‑5 Investor Visas: All set‑aside categories (Rural, High Unemployment, Infrastructure) remain Current, offering the fastest path to a green card for eligible investors.
Diversity Visa (DV‑2026): High cut‑off numbers continue, but the State Department warns that visa numbers may run out before September 30, 2026.
Why This Matters
The State Department has advanced several categories to ensure full use of FY‑2026 visa numbers. However, retrogression later in the year remains possible if demand increases.
Recommended Next Steps
Adjustment of Status applicants: Prepare documentation now if your priority date is newly current.
Consular processing applicants: Ensure all civil and financial documents are updated with the National Visa Center.
EB‑5 investors: Consider set‑aside categories for faster processing.
DV‑2026 selectees: Act quickly—visa availability is not guaranteed.
