DEPARTMENT OF STATE OPENS CRISIS INTAKE FORM TO U.S. CITIZENS IN HAITI

On March 18, 2024, the United States Department of State (DOS) made a Crisis Intake Form available to U.S. Citizens in Haiti.

Due to continued unrest in Haiti, the DOS initiated measures to identify U.S. citizens and facilitate their safe returns to the United States.

As of March 22, 2024, the DOS began arranging departures for U.S. citizens from U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic via helicopter.

The helicopter rides to the Dominican Republic will only depart from Port-au-Prince.  DOS cannot provide overland travel from other parts of Haiti to Port-au-Prince. The overland trip into Port-au-Prince is highly unpredictable and dangerous.

DOS advises that U.S. Citizens only attempt to depart Haiti or travel within Haiti if they find it safe after taking cautionary measures.  DOS even advises the use of personal security before traveling anywhere in Haiti.

The Dominican Republic has indicated it will allow U.S. citizens to enter the Dominican Republic through a land border with a valid U.S. passport.  The U.S. government cannot help U.S. citizens to cross the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic immigration officials have the final authority to decide who may enter the Dominican Republic.

U.S. citizens who cross into the Dominican Republic at an unofficial crossing may face significant immigration fines when attempting to depart from the Dominican Republic.
