USCIS completed H-1B data entry
June 2, 2017
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) announced that it has completed data entry of all H-1B cap-subject petitions selected in the computer-generated lottery for the fiscal year 2018. USCIS began returning all H-1B cap-subject petitions that were not selected.
As a reminder, H-1B is a highly competitive visa which is not granted to every qualified applicant. It is a computer-generated random selection process with the established cap of 85,000 per fiscal year. In April 2017, USCIS received 199,000 petitions, which means that 114,000 non-selected petitions are now being returned.
If your application wasn’t picked in this year’s lottery, don’t panic – there are other options to stay legally in the country. You have a choice to temporarily extend/change your current status and wait until next year’s H-1B lottery, or consider investing money in a U.S. business and secure yourself not only a longer-term visa, but also permanent residency in the United States.
