This is Final: USCIS Increases Filing Fees!
November 1, 2016
On October 24, 2016, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced a final rule adjusting the fees for most immigration applications and petitions. Fees will be increased for the first time in six years, by a weighted average of 21 percent for most applications and petitions. The new fees will go into effect on December 23, 2016. Any applications or petitions that are postmarked or filed on/after this date must include the updated fees.
USCIS is almost entirely funded by the fees paid by applicants and petitioners for immigration benefits. The law requires USCIS to conduct fee reviews every two years to determine the funding levels necessary to administer the nation’s immigration laws, process benefit requests and provide the infrastructure needed to support those activities.
Of critical note: The I-526 petition filing fee will increase by 100% and the Regional Center (I-924) petition filing fee will increase by almost 300%. If you are considering investing through the EB-5 program and avoiding the increased fees, submit your petition before December 23rd!
